Summer show at the Quercus Galley, Bath

We had an enjoyable visit to Bath on Saturday to deliver some of my paintings to the Quercus Gallery ready for the forthcoming Summer Show. Quercus Gallery is a contemporary gallery in the centre of Bath showing paintings, drawings, prints, ceramics, jewellery and textiles by artists such as Vanessa Gardiner, Stef Mitchell, Helen Booth and Robert Woolner. Gallery owner Evie Williams opened the gallery in June 2013, having formerly worked at Austin Desmond Fine Art, London.

The exhibition runs from Saturday 19th July to 23rd August with a private view on Friday 18th July.

Here is a little preview of some of the paintings, thank you to Evie:

skygazing

Most of my paintings in some way relate to the sky, at different times of day, different weather and illusive effects of light and mood so I rarely take photographs, preferring to paint from memory. The other evening though the sky was a particularly intense blue behind the dark silhouettes of trees. A slow shutter and camera movement resulted in a few photos showing what inspired my most recent paintings - photos based on my paintings rather than the other way round...

My painting finds a new home...

Although I am always pleased when someone buys one of my paintings from a gallery (in this case the Columbia Road gallery in Hackney) I also often feel sad because then I don't know who has bought it or where it's new home is. So it was a lovely surprise to be flicking through the Style Pages of the Times Magazine today to see an article 'Tower of London' showing my painting At the end of the day II !  It now lives in the beautiful apartment of Georg Oehler, an interior and furniture designer, who resides at the top of the Strata building in London. Thank you Georg!

New paintings at the Columbia Road Gallery

 night echoes VI

After an intense few weeks of painting we drove down to London on Sunday to deliver a selection of new and recent paintings to the Columbia Road Gallery in Hackney. It opens on Sundays when the famous Columbia Road flower market and shops are all open and is always extremely busy. Great news that the gallery's owner, Hannah Ludnow, will also be showing my work at the Hampstead Affordable Art Fair in June. The new paintings explore the changing colour, tones and light along the horizon and how it is affected by time of day, weather and state of mind.

New website for Electric Picture House Artists

My studio is at the Electric Picture House Artists Co-operative in Congleton, Cheshire and we have just launched our new website at www.electricpicturehouse.com. It was created by Ian Turnock at Studio Latitude who also designed and built my own artists website. We'll be adding to it as more exhibitions and events are organised for 2014.
